The Way of Seeing
Group Photo Walk
Led by award-winning documentary fine art photographer Jun Tagai, these Themed Group Photo Walks are designed for photographers who want more than simply gathering to shoot.
Each walk is built around a specific theme, with the location intentionally chosen to support that way of seeing. Rather than wandering without direction, we explore with purpose, focusing on observation, timing, light, emotion, and the subtle moments most people overlook.
Unlike traditional photo walks that often become casual social gatherings, these walks are guided with intention. Through observation, conversation, and real-time photographic exploration, you’ll be encouraged to slow down, notice more deeply, and make photographs with greater meaning.
This is not a social meetup.
This is not about shooting more.
It is about learning to see with greater clarity.
In a small group setting, you’ll have space to ask questions, experiment, reflect, and observe how others interpret the same theme, while developing a deeper awareness of your own way of seeing.
First Friday Downtown

As daylight fades, Downtown Honolulu becomes a different place.
During this two-hour First Friday walk, we’ll explore the streets as they come alive with people, movement, artificial light, and unexpected moments. Together, we’ll look beyond the obvious and learn to recognize the gestures, relationships, shadows, and fleeting details that give the city its rhythm.
Rather than searching for perfect scenes, we’ll practice responding intuitively to what unfolds around us—learning to anticipate moments while remaining open to surprise.
This isn’t about mastering your camera. It’s about becoming more present, more observant, and more confident in the way you see.
Because sometimes the strongest photographs are found in the moments between what we were looking for.

Kaka'ako Farmers Market

A neighborhood reveals itself differently when we take the time to walk through it.
During this two-hour photo walk, we’ll begin by exploring the streets of Kakaʻako, observing the architecture, light, people, and moments of everyday life before making our way toward the energy of the Farmers Market.
As the environment shifts, we’ll explore how our way of seeing can shift with it, from slower observations in the streets to the gestures, interactions, colors, and movement of the market.
Rather than searching for obvious subjects, we’ll practice noticing the subtle relationships and unexpected moments that give a place its character.
This isn’t about photographing everything we see. It’s about becoming more aware of what we choose to notice.
Because developing your photographic voice begins with understanding what draws your attention.
